The Sessions Judge, Manipur Ng Max Phazang has awarded life imprisonment to an accused for killing his wife in September 1990.The order was passed yesterday by the court which established that the accused committed the offence under section 302 (murder) of the India Penal Code.
The accused identified as Chanam Ibopishak of Langpok Mayai Leikai under Nambol police station clubbed to dead his wife Moinu Hmar in the intervening night of September 11 and 12, 1990, case records said.
Moinu succumbed to the injuries inflicted in several parts of her body.
Ibopishak used a bamboo stick (wakok) while carrying out the crime inside their house.
The death of the woman came to be known only the next morning.
One Ch Gourahari Singh lodged a complaint with the Nambol police station on the matter after which the accused was arrested.
As many as 14 prosecution witnesses testified before the trial court after which the latter established the crime.
In its ruling, the court maintained that the circumstances, �when carefully considered conjointly on sufficient to form a complete chain to show that within human probability the assailant of the deceased was the accused and none other else�.
